In line with the Government’s announcement, the NHS is aiming to offer every adult the chance to book a COVID-19 booster vaccine by the end of the year. This means our practice is now prioritising the booster rollout.
As part of this, some of our routine services may be stood down temporarily to allow us to focus on protecting as many patients as possible.
We are still there for anyone who may need care for an urgent need, but would ask for patience as we support this key national priority over the coming weeks. We hope to be able to stand back up any services as soon as possible and will update this page as soon as we know more.
Please don’t forget there are many services available for you, depending on your condition. These include:
- Self-care – This is the best choice to treat minor illnesses and injuries such as hangovers, coughs, colds, grazes, small cuts or sore throats. Many of these can be treated at home, simply with over-the-counter medicines and plenty of rest.
- Pharmacy – Pharmacists can give advice on and treat a range of symptoms. They can support you with things such as diarrhoea, earaches, painful coughs, sticky eyes, teething and rashes.
- NHS 111 – You can access 111 online or via the telephone. This is for any urgent but non-life threatening health concerns. They will be able to signpost you to the relevant service and provide advice where appropriate, or book you in to an Urgent Treatment Centre.
- A&E / 999 – You should only attend A&E or dial 999 in a life-threatening emergency such as severe bleeding, breathing difficulties and severe chest pain.
Mandatory announcement from NHSE
From the 19th July it is a MANDATORY requirement for patients to wear a mask, social distance and use hand sanitiser when visiting the surgery. Staff will continue to wear PPE.
QMC has come so far in trying to minimise the impact of COVID and we are sure you understand the need to keep the surgery safe for all patients and staff.
If you are a patient at Northampton General Hospital and have any questions or queries about an outpatient appointment, when your planned operation is expected to take place, or if you want to cancel or rearrange an appointment with the hospital, please contact their Outpatient Contact Centre on 01604 545555. We not have access to the hospital booking system and will not be able to provide you with the information you need.

During the current pandemic the surgery is experiencing unprecedented volumes of telephone calls causing a huge problem, particularly on Mondays.
The telephone company assures us that the problems are purely down to volume of calls (resembling a call centre). All lines are in use constantly for both inbound and outbound calls. Consequently this can result in ‘call number 1 in the queue’ being cut off as there is nowhere for the call to go. We share patient’s frustration with these problems and ask for your patience and understanding.

We have been looking at how we can improve access to Practice services; DoctorLink is our new online service where you can access advice and appointments on line.

For all urgent appointment, we ask that you undertake a symptom assessment through DoctorLink.
The symptom checker will ask you a number of questions to help to identify your problem.
The outcome of your assessment will direct you to the right treatment, whether emergency care, your GP, nurse, self-care or alternative clinical services.
If your outcome indicates that an appointment is required at Queensway Medical Centre, you simply click on the request appointment link.
Once the request has been submitted, you will then be contacted by the Practice Team, to arrange an appointment within the identified timeframe (as outlined in the outcome of your symptom checker).
The information you provide will be shared with our clinical team (where appropriate) and will assist in providing robust information of your problem to the required clinical team member prior to your appointment.

The NHS Friends and Family Test information is now available at the Surgery. The information cards are available in the front foyer entrance, plus a posting box for patients completed forms.

We ensure that all patients will be greeted in a friendly manner and be treated with courtesy and respect by the Practice Staff. The Practice aims to provide a high quality service that is accessible to all patients.
The practice covers Wellingborough plus an approximate radius of five miles from the medical centre. The surgery comprises twelve consulting rooms, four nurse treatment rooms and a fully equipped minor surgery room with adjacent recovery room.
The practice is fully computerised, enabling us to cover a wide range of services such as repeat prescriptions and the most up-to-date health information.
The practice aims to provide a high quality service that is easily accessible to all patients.
All the medical centre doors are wide enough to admit wheelchairs and there are disabled toilets available. Please ask someone to call a member of staff to help if you have difficulty. There are disabled spaces provided in the car park and a wheelchair is kept in the surgery should this be required.
